Tem como objetivo fundamental servir toda a comunidade UA, a cidade e a região de Aveiro, nomeadamente prestando informação sobre os vários domínios da vida social, política, educativa, desportiva, cultural, entre outras. A Ria pretende ainda promover o debate, a cidadania ativa e divulgar informação completa, rigorosa e isenta, contribuindo para a crítica construtiva, para uma vida em sociedade mais informada, mais integrada, mais emancipada, mais participativa e humanamente enriquecedora, tanto no contexto da universidade, como da cidade e da região de Aveiro.
