Description

ExpSafe AASTP-5 FD Standard is a clean, user-friendly companion app for professionals seeking a mobile tool set to evaluate changing operational scenarios between a Potential Explosive Site (PES) and a defined Exposed Site (ES). As a mobile application, it is ideal for anyone involved in planning or conducting licensing of explosives storage and workshops in an operational environment under NATO AASTP-5 principles. This companion app has been developed to determine NEQ storage limits or required separations distances for PES based on Field Distance (FD) criteria promulgated in NATO manual AASTP-5, Edition B, Version 1 (2024). Its primary objective is to facilitate rapid one-to-one PES to ES assessments. While permission has been granted to use information contained within AASTP-5, this tool is not endorsed by NATO, specifically the Group of Experts on the Safety Aspects of Transportation and Storage of Military Ammunition and Explosives (AC/258). Consequently, the app should not be used for formal site planning or FD assessments without validating outcomes with those provided in AASTP-5 and requirements published with your nation’s regulations. It is also recommended that the tool be used with AASTP-5 available to provide clarification and applicability of the outcomes generated by this application. Background The primary purpose of AASTP-5 is to establish conventional military ammunition and explosives1 safety principles and guidelines for NATO Nations on deployed missions or operations. These standards, agreed to by NATO’s explosives safety technical experts, complement the standards in AASTP-1. Where AASTP-1 establishes standards for permanent/long term facilities, AASTP-5 establishes standards for more temporary facilities, facilities which have to operate in a threat environment. Also included are standards for transitioning into and out of theatre. Who is GSS? Gibbs Software Solutions (Aust) is a privately own small business setup to market the ExpSAFE suite of applications.
